What is Chiropody / Podiatry?
Many State Registered Chiropodists are now using the title Podiatrist, which is the internationally recognised name for foot specialists.
Podiatrists treat foot problems using surgical, chemical, physical, and mechanical therapies.
State registered Podiatrists undergo a 3 to 4 year full time undergraduate course, leading to a B.Sc. (Hons) in Podiatric Medicine.
They receive similar basic training as medical students, studying Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology. They take pre-clinical courses in clinical examination and diagnosis. They then move on to more advanced and specialised training in the examination and treatment of the foot.
A visit to the Podiatrist can dramatically improve mobility and maintain fit, active and pain free feet.
We aim to provide high quality specialist care that is:
• Affordable
• Appropriate
• Effective
You will be provided with information on all possible therapies for your particular problem.
A professional opinion will always be given
What Can a State Registered Podiatrist Treat?
When you first visit a podiatrist, they take a full medical history, and carry out vascular, neurological, radiological and anatomical examinations of the feet to reach a diagnosis.
Please bring a list of your current medications with you.
Routine Treatments
These appointments are half an hour. In this time simple problems such as corns, callous, and nail care can be carried out, and foot health advice will be given.
Nail Surgery
This is the correction of nail disease by the partial or total removal of the nail plate. This is a painless procedure carried out under local anaesthesia. This is a very effective form of minor surgery.
Diabetic Foot Assessment
The screening of diabetic foot for neuropathy (loss of sensation) and vascular disease (reduction of blood flow to the foot), to establish baselines to monitor these two processes, and advise and treat as appropriate. This is an essential therapy for newly diagnosed and longstanding diabetic patients.
Removal of Verrucae / Warts
There are caused by a viral infection picked up easily in swimming pools / communal areas. They can be removed under local anaesthetic by electro-surgery. This can be completed in one visit.
